Operation of the National Lithium ion Battery Industry in 2024
In 2024, China's lithium-ion battery industry will continue to grow. According to the lithium battery industry standard announcement and industry association calculations, the total production of lithium batteries in China is 1170GWh, a year-on-year increase of 24%. The total output value of the industry exceeds 1.2 trillion yuan.
In the battery sector, the production of consumer, energy storage, and power lithium batteries from January to December was 84GWh, 260GWh, and 826GWh, respectively. The installed capacity of lithium batteries (including new energy vehicles and new energy storage) exceeded 645GWh, a year-on-year increase of 48%. Affected by the decline in prices of lithium battery products, the total export value of lithium batteries in China from January to December reached 434.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5%, narrowing the decline by seven percentage points compared to the first half of 2024.
In the first stage materials sector, the production of positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, separators, and electrolytes from January to December was approximately 3.1 million tons, 2 million tons, 21 billion square meters, and 1.3 million tons, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates exceeding 20%.
In the secondary materials stage, the production of battery grade lithium carbonate from January to December was 670000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 45%, and the production of battery grade lithium hydroxide was 360000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 26%. The average prices of battery grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide (micro powder grade) from January to December were 90000 yuan/ton and 87000 yuan/ton, respectively.
