In addition to these four enterprises in addition to Jing Ao, TCL Central, Atlas, sun power, Orient Sunrise and other leading domestic photovoltaic enterprises are also shortlisted in the list of top 100.
In addition in the list also emerged a large number of high-growth and development prospects and potential of emerging enterprises, such as solar energy in the field of high King, Huasheng, Runyang, Hangzhou Fibers, in the clear photovoltaic, energy storage battery in the field of Ruipu Lanjun, Haichen energy storage, hydrogen energy in the field of Yihuatong, Edelman, Guohong Hydrogen Energy and so on. China has made up for its shortcomings and established a complete development echelon in the industrial chain of various fields, forming a sustainable development potential and competitive advantages.
In the past year, due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and other geopolitical factors, the global energy supply and demand pattern has changed drastically, and energy prices have risen rapidly, ushering in new development opportunities for the new energy industry. In addition, the explosive growth of global new energy vehicles led to the explosive development of the battery industry, the industry is highly sought after, investment has increased dramatically. As a result, many excellent enterprises have emerged in the new energy industry, especially in the solar energy and energy storage battery industry, and the competition in the industry has become increasingly fierce, resulting in significant changes in the industry's competitive landscape.
Rapid expansion and fierce competition
The scale of the industry is expanding rapidly. Statistics show that in 2023, the total revenue of global new energy enterprises has exceeded RMB 10 trillion. Among them, the total operating income of the top 500 enterprises (hereinafter referred to as the "top 500") reached RMB 8.66 trillion (see Figure 1), representing a significant increase of RMB 3.17 trillion over the previous year's RMB 5.49 trillion, or an increase of 57.74%, and the industry scale has realized explosive growth.
Overall explosive growth in enterprise scale. Statistical results show that the scale of global new energy enterprises in 2023 has realized explosive growth as a whole, with more than 10 enterprises with revenues exceeding RMB 100 billion, an increase of 300%; nearly 40 enterprises with more than 50 billion, an increase of over 100%; more than 200 enterprises with more than 10 billion, an increase of over 50%; more than 1,200 enterprises with more than 1 billion in revenue, an increase of more than 50%; and the average size of the top 500 enterprises reached 17.328 billion yuan (see Figure 2), an increase of 6.347 billion yuan over the previous year's 10.981 billion yuan. average size of 17.328 billion yuan (see Figure 2), an increase of 6.347 billion yuan over the previous year's 10.981 billion yuan, an increase of 57.80%.
Firms from emerging market countries dominate
It is the advantage of the number of enterprises that is increasingly obvious. Statistical results show that the competitive advantage of new energy industry in emerging market countries is becoming more and more obvious, especially in solar energy and energy storage industry, with many industrial enterprises and high quality. According to statistics, among the top 500 enterprises in 2023, enterprises from emerging market countries reach 291 (see Figure 3), 15 more than the previous year's 276, while enterprises from developed countries only have 209, 15 less than the previous year's 224.
In terms of industry size, among the top 500 companies in 2023, the total operating revenues of companies from emerging market countries reached 4.88 trillion yuan (see Figure 4), an increase of 2.09 trillion yuan, or 74.91%, over the previous year's 2.79 trillion yuan, while those of companies from developed countries were 3.79 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.09 trillion yuan, or 40.37%, over the previous year's 2.70 trillion yuan . Both in terms of overall size and growth rate, emerging market countries prevailed.
In terms of operating revenue share, companies from emerging market countries accounted for 56.30% of the total operating revenue of the top 500 companies in 2023 (see Figure 5), a significant increase of 5.55 percentage points from the previous year's 50.75%, while companies from developed countries accounted for 43.70% of the total operating revenue, a decrease of 5.55 percentage points from the previous year's 49.25%.
In terms of average enterprise size, among the top 500 enterprises in 2023, the average size of enterprises in emerging market countries is $16.995 billion (see Figure 6), an increase of $6.899 billion, or 68.34%, from $10.096 billion in the previous year, and an increase of 45.19 percentage points from 23.15% in the previous year, while the average size of enterprises in developed countries reaches $17.777 billion, an increase of $5.706 billion, or 47.27%, from 12.071 billion dollars, an increase of 5.706 billion dollars, an increase of 47.27%, an increase of 18.98 percentage points over the previous year's 28.29%.
In short, among the top 500 companies in 2023, the number of companies, overall size, share and growth rate of emerging market countries have surpassed those of developed countries, and the advantage is becoming increasingly obvious. Although the average size of companies is still slightly behind that of developed countries, the two are already very close, with only a slight gap. On the whole, emerging market countries have the advantage.
